If you live in NYC and take advantage of the free condom giveaways, you might be getting “short-changed” so to speak. Men and especially gay and African-American men in NYC are complaining that the free condom giveaways are too short. They also say that they do not have enough room for their comprehensive manhood and are inferior for supplying adequate protection. That may not be the most immediate problem facing the NYC mayoral candidates this year, but it does raise the question of: Just what is the average size condom and penis?
I guess depending on how Mother Nature blessed you in that area, or how you care to admit to it – or how much you lie – the answers could vary quite a bit.
Should it be 5 inches, 6 inches, 7 inches, 8 inches, 9 inches or more?
Clearly, Christine Quinn, who is the NYC Council Speaker in NYC, and who was the first openly lesbian, mayoral candidate in NYC, felt that this issue needed to be addressed. At a campaign stop a few months ago in Harlem, she said about NYC men, “They were dissatisfied with the quality of the NYC Condom. So I want to tell you, we will be improving the NYC Condom.”
That was very considerate of council speaker Quinn, and it garnered her much applause.
Most people may not think that this is such a serious problem and one that city administrators should be worrying about, but they are wrong. Some men, and especially young men have problems with this topic, and especially when they are fresh out of the gate.
Consider, for example, this question posted on yahoo.com/answers, two-years ago, by someone named “bobby lite.”
“I just turned 16, and I really don’t know what I’m doing because I’m a virgin and I’ve never dealt with condoms before. I’m going to have sex for the first time tomorrow, and I just bought some condoms a few days ago. They’re trojan, ultra ribbed ones, and I don’t know if they’ll fit me good because I’m not the biggest guy in the world. My penis is 5 1/2 inches, so will they fit alright or kinda big?”
For this teenager, that was a serious problem (although not a private one) and one which needed a direct answer. Too bad the kid was worrying for nothing.
According to the latest research, the average size penis is 5.6 inches long when erect. That statistic is from the Journal of Sexual Medicine, which was recently published online on July 10th, 2013. The study also found that some penises were as small as 1.6 inches and as large as 10.2 inches when erect. Out of the 1,661 men who “measured” themselves and who were from a varied group of ethnic origins, no man had an erect penis more than 10.2 inches in length, with the average erection being only 5.6 inches.
Another study done in 2006, which was published by the Psychology of Men and Masculinity, found that the overall, average penis size for 68% of men was 4.6 to 6.0-inches when erect, with the remaining percentages being below or above that average.
That is right ladies…only 5.6 inches!
Cause and effect of penis length and girth when erect varies also, according to the study, by the method and type of arousal, but let us not get into that. All the studies did show, though that the average size condom should be anywhere from 5 to 7.25-inches in length to fit most men.
I wonder about studies like this. Is asking 1,161 men to erect themselves, take the measurements and send the results in online a true indicator of what the average erect penis size is? Can we trust men to be that honest? However, since the numbers were obtained by that process, and the results averaged out to only 5.6-inches, I guess we (or should I say the ladies) will all have to learn to live with that fact…
…or, should I say length.
