Only this time, it’s not a “Gypsy Queen In A Jar of Vaseline” – it’s Anthony Weiner once again, amidst more lewd, sex-texting accusations. Even though Weiner did warn us a few months back that “there might be more” evidence of sex-tweeting between him and other women online, he failed to tell us that he had continued his lewd behavior, even after resigning his congressional seat back in 2011 – behavior that he had us all believing that he had sought treatment for.
So what does this tell us about Anthony Weiner? It tells us that he has a serious sex-addiction problem and that he needs immediate help. It also tells us that he is a liar and cannot be trusted as a public official and especially one as important as being the Mayor of New York City. The voters in the “Big Apple” are already voicing their displeasure and disgust with Weiner for the past two days, especially after the latest round of evidence became public on Tuesday. Weiner has already plummeted in the polls overnight to an all-time low of just 16% of the democratic vote, placing him way behind former, front-runner, NYC Council President Christine Quinn, whose poll numbers shot up to 25% overnight.
The New York City voters are sending Anthony Weiner a message, but he is failing to heed their call. This is the reaction of a man who is in serious denial of his problem and who does not have even the slightest afterthought of the effects of his actions on his family and others around him. He is living in a complete state of denial and portraying a façade that will eventually do him great harm and ruin the public’s opinion of other politicians in the NYC mayor’s race, who are trying to run a respectable and honest campaign.
However, this has been Weiner’s intentions from the very start when he first entered the campaign as a “spoiler” in the race. In some political campaigns, one political party will purposely plant a candidate in the race to draw votes away from another competing party’s candidate, but this isn’t what happened in NYC. Weiner entered the race only for the selfish intention of resurrecting his own political career. He also knew that it would most likely cause an extra, primary run-off because none of the other democratic candidates would be able to garner 40% of the vote, which must be obtained to avoid a costly and time-consuming process.
But Anthony Weiner does not seem to care. His arrogant insistence that he be allowed a second chance is a slap in the face to the NYC voters who stood behind him and believed that his lewd, online behavior of the past was over. Obviously it was not – it continued for over a year and who knows how much longer after that.
The voters of New York City and the rest of us are sick and tired of hearing Anthony Weiner’s pathetic “pity me” proclamations and lies. It is time for Anthony Weiner to step out of the NYC Mayor’s race, get himself some professional help, and let the city of New York get back some of the respect it deserves.
