Is It Bad To Think Too Much?
(The Daily Prompt – Sculptures)
By Joseph E Rathjen
June 27th, 2013

I often wondered if there was a lot of thought put into making “The Thinker” sculpture. After all, it leaves many unanswered questions like, “What is he actually thinking about?” He certainly has thought about – whatever it is – for a very long time now. It is actually 111 years and that is a hell of a long time to have thought about anything.

However, every time I see that statue I wonder if my own thoughts are being comprised of an internal struggle as deeply as his are.

So what does that mean? I have no idea…I’m still in the process of thinking about it.

I guess the point I am trying to make is “Why waste so much time thinking about doing something? Why not just go out and do it?”

You know, like “Have a thought…move a muscle.”

Philosophy, contemplation and analytic thinking are wonderful things and “food for thought” so to speak, but it is action and movement that makes things happen.

So the next time someone says to you “You know, I was thinking…”, pull out a photo of the “The Thinker” sculpture, point to it and say “He’s been thinking about something too, for a long time…and that’s why he’s still sitting there!”

Get moving!
